Wobenzyme for Horses

This article will briefly describe sucess I have seen with Wobenzyme and standardbred race horses. Let me begin by saying that I am not a vet, and I do not claim to be an expert. I am merely offering an option when you are faced with a problem and don't know how to proceed. Many horses, race horses especially, are aflicted with all kinds of inflammatory problems due to the stresses on their bodies. We place huge demands on our animals. Whether it be injury or arthritis, most horses that have raced any amount of time have aches and pains somewhere in their bodies. I have always tried to provide the best care possible to my horses, and whenever I can, I try to avoid needles and "hard" drugs. They take a toll just like the track surface does. About two years ago, I was introduced to Wobenzyme, sometimes also called Wobe mucus. Near as I can figure, it's pronounced whoa-bee enzyme. I found it at the health food store, though it's available at a far lesser cost by ordering in bulk online once you decide you like it. It's actually recommended for human consumption, so you won't find it at a feed store. This treatment is pretty straight forward, you just crush up ten tablets a day and toss them in your horse's feed. I haven't had a horse refuse them yet, so even my picky eaters approve. What it does is systemically decrease inflammation, thereby decreasing aches and pains. It's by no means a treatment for a major injury, but if you have a horse that's generally sore all over they can be helped tremendously by a daily dose of Wobe. I had a mare with sore suspensories, where she carried fill after a race, but not badly enough to consider Kryo yet. After a couple weeks on Wobe, she was greatly improved. I have not seen any bad side effects from this, and have also used it on my retired gelding who suffers from severe arthritis. It won't cure him, but it makes his getting around a little easier. Since this is actually intended for humans, I also recommended it to my mother. She started it, and within a few days she confirmed that her arthritic knees were nearly pain free. She also remarked that she had a general feeling of betterment throughout her body, as she has what her doctor terms "general arthritic changes" associated with age. It's nice to hear her confirm what the horses can't actually tell us with words but can only show with actions, that wobenzyme has been helping them get around and feel better.
